Why invest in Pecém?

The city of São Gonçalo do Amarante — best known for its coastal region called the Pecém — located at about 60 km away from Fortaleza, state capital of Ceará. Between the years of 2009 and 2010, the city of São Gonçalo do Amarante grew by 18,8% in its Municipal Development Index, becoming, this way, the second place in the Ceará, according to the Legislative Assembly of Ceará.

This growth is clearly due to the implementation of the Industrial and Port Complex of Pecém (CIPP), one of the major port terminals in Brazil in conjunction with the Export Processing Zone of Pecém (ZPE), allowing companies belonging to the zone to operate tax free.

The Pecém Port

Opened in 2002, the port terminal of Pecém is in the metropolitan area of Fortaleza and can be accessed through the Transnordestina railroad and the BR-222 and CE-422 highways. Due to its advantageous strategic geographical location, the average time required to move from the Pecém to the United States or Europe is about 7 days. According to the website of the Municipal Government of Ipueiras, we observed an increase of 88% in the amount of tons of goods handled from January to April of 2014 compared to the same period of 2013.

In December of 2013, the Brazilian Institute of Environment and Renewable Resources (Ibama) authorized the start of the expansion process of the Port of Pecém, consisting of the construction of a new access bridge to the existing breakwater, paving, widening of the bridge and pier construction.

Export Processing Zone

The Pécem has an ZPE (Export Processing Zone), authorized by the Federal Revenue, whose objectives are to bring foreign investment and strengthen national companies, so that they become competitive; job creation; allow greater regional balance; disseminate new technologies and modern management practices.

According to the Economic Development Agency of the State of Ceará (Adece), the Industrial and Port Complex of Pecém (CIPP) is already showing significant economic contributions to the state due to the industries already installed and also due to the attraction of new ventures. Currently there are 28 Companies at CIPP which 12 are in operation and 16 in installation process, generating the movement of raw steel, finished steel products and cereals in bulk, containers and bulk liquid and gaseous.
